Welcome to the official website of Darren Matthews. "To inspire, to be inspired, to entertain, to create and to give every ounce of passion and care into every role I perform."

You can check Darrens’ CV page to see his busy and varied history, but what has been happening of late and in the near future?

In 2008, Darren was seen on the big screen for the first time, when “Trail of the Spider” was shown at the Tate Modern in London and then ran at the Institute of Contemporary Arts through the summer, before being shown at cinemas across Europe during the subsequent months. The film is still winning critical acclaim, after featuring at cinemas in 2009 as part of London’s “East End Film Festival”.

In the summer of 2008, after an intense audition process, Darren beat many hopefuls to land the iconic role of “Yorkshire Ripper”, Peter Sutcliffe in “Serial Killers” (aka “Crimes that shook the world”) which was shown worldwide on The Discovery Channel, receiving great reviews in 2009. The show was then bought out by Channel 5 and aired again in 2010. Director Jeremy Turner, with 20 years of film and TV experience, described Darren as the “best prepared actor” he had ever worked with!

Across 2009 and 2010 Darren starred in 4 short films, a stage play in which he was described as “scarily believable”, two promotional trailers for feature films and two joyous pantomimes, as well as a variety of corporate role plays and his own musical one-man shows across the country.

And so to 2011. During recent filming on “A Kind of Blue”, Darren was spotted by members of a production team working on another feature film and cast in the creepy “Any Minute Now”, alongside Mhairi Calvey (“Braveheart”) and Lee MacDonald (Zammo in “Grange Hill”). During a break in filming, Darren was then whisked off up north to star as the diabolical Ralph Philips in ‘Pulp’, an outrageous new comedy starring John Thomson of ‘Cold Feet’ fame, a film that could well become one of the indie hits of 2011!! Darren is then due to re-unite with Jeremy Turner on an 18th century naval drama/documentary for television.

A variety of newspapers, directors, writers and producers have described Darren as “Intensely powerful”, “Brilliant”, “A consummate professional”, “Charismatic” and “An absolute inspiration to work with”.
Darren is a full member of Equity and features in the 2010/11 edition of Spotlight, Page 2396.
